In October 1,000 scientists and activists gathered in Barcelona to discuss the state of HIV/AIDS vaccine research. And the news out of the 13th annual AIDS Vaccine 2013 conference was decidedly mixed.

Improving Health Outcomes for Racial/Ethnic Minorities Is Key Focus of FY13 Awards by Secretary's Minority AIDS Initiative Fund

Consistent with the President's request to sharpen our focus on improving outcomes along the HIV care continuum as we pursue the goals of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, the Fiscal Year 2013 (FY13) awards made by the Secretary's Minority AIDS Initiative Fund (SMAIF) funded a number of initiatives designed to do just that.
Being Single Raises Risk of Death From HIV in US, But Only in Men

Single, divorced, or separated HIV-positive people in the United States had a higher risk of death from HIV/AIDS than married people, according to analysis of the US National Longitudinal Mortality Study. But the higher death risk applied only to men.

Viral Hepatitis Action Plan 2012 Progress Report Released

In a new report, partners from across the U.S. government have shared an update on progress made during 2012 in implementing the Action Plan for the Prevention, Care and Treatment of Viral Hepatitis. This is our second such progress report; a report on the first year of implementing the Action Plan was published last October.
