Hepatitis C was in the spotlight at the 2015 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) in Seattle. SAMHSA Announces Funding Opportunity: Substance Abuse and HIV Prevention Services for At-Risk Minority Youth and Young Adults

A new opportunity for youth at risk
A new Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) will support substance abuse and HIV prevention services for at-risk racial/ethnic minority youth and young adults. Eligible applicants are community-level domestic public and private nonprofit entities, tribes, and tribal organizations. Applications are due April 23, 2015. A brief synopsis is below.
Substance Use Drops Sharply in Pregnant US Women With HIV

Proportions of pregnant HIV-positive US women who reported substance use or tested positive for substance use fell sharply from 1990 to 2012, according to analysis of two large prospective cohorts. Researchers believe the decline may reflect an epidemiologic shift in the US HIV epidemic.
