AIDSVu Launches 1st Site to Visualize HIV Care Continuum

HIV Continuum

AIDSVu is an interactive online map illustrating the prevalence of HIV in the United States. Its national, state and local views allow users to visualize the HIV epidemic alongside HIV testing and treatment centers and other critical resources. AIDSVu also lets users filter HIV prevalence data by race/ethnicity, gender and age and examine how prevalence is affected by various social determinants of health, such as educational attainment and poverty.

In February AIDSVu launched HIVContinuum, the first website to depict HIV care outcomes on a map. HIVContinuum portrays the HIV care continuum in five heavily impacted U.S. cities: Atlanta, Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia and Washington, DC.

Also known as the HIV treatment cascade, the HIV care continuum describes each stage of HIV care from initial diagnosis to viral suppression. Understanding patterns in how different populations are impacted by HIV—such as disparities related to race, age and geographic location—is critical to improving the health of people living with HIV and reducing its spread. HIVContinuum allows local communities, health departments and policymakers to visualize areas of success and opportunities for improvement in HIV testing, care and treatment.
