It's Hunting Season on Black Men and Everyone Seems to Have a Permit

I've spent the last five months on sabbatical, and now I'm back. I'm very grateful to the California Wellness Foundation for supporting the work of the Black AIDS Institute and allowing me to take the time off. I knew the only way I could take off was to really get away. So I decided to go Southeast Asia—literally as far away as possible. It was an amazing trip. But I don't want to talk about my trip today. I want to talk about what the re-entry has been like.
Retooling Black AIDS Organizations in the Face of Change

The first in a three-part series about the need for AIDS service organizations that serve Black communities to adapt to the changing landscape.The AIDS landscape is rapidly changing. Over the last several years, new biomedical tools have emerged that have quickly transformed the AIDS response. Today we are no longer talking about managing AIDS but instead about how to end it.

More Than Half of MSM in US HIV Group Have Unprotected Anal Sex

Among 704 sexually active men who have sex with men (MSM) in the US HIV Outpatient Study (HOPS), 54% had unprotected (condom-free) anal intercourse. But only 15% of men reporting unprotected anal sex had a detectable viral load.

Online Trainings Strengthen HIV Prevention, Testing, and Treatment Effort

Finding the time and resources to take advantage of in-person trainings can be challenging (if not impossible) for staff at many organizations. "I am continually seeking new and innovative ways to provide valuable information on social media and digital strategizing to our volunteer Board of Directors, many of whom have had little or no experience in this area," said Robert Carroll, the Board President for the Association for Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC). Trainings delivered online can make it more convenient and cost-effective for people in the HIV community to access vital opportunities to strengthen HIV prevention, testing and treatment efforts.

New Resources Available to Help Consumers Navigate the Health Insurance Marketplace

HHS awards $67 million to Navigators and recognizes more than 100 organizations as Champions for Coverage
Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius today announced $67 million in grant awards to 105 Navigator grant applicants in Federally-facilitated and State Partnership Marketplaces. These Navigator grantees and their staff will serve as an in-person resource for Americans who want additional assistance in shopping for and enrolling in plans in the Health Insurance Marketplace beginning this fall. Also today, HHS recognized more than 100 national organizations and businesses who have volunteered to help Americans learn about the health care coverage available in the Marketplace.
