Imagine discovering the promise of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for the first time and determining that it can lower your risk of becoming HIV positive. You get up the nerve to go to your primary care physician and ask him or her if you are a candidate for the treatment, and your doctor either dismisses your question or, even worse, has no idea what PrEP is.

New scientific findings from two separate domains were among the key highlights shared during the second day of the 2017 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) in Seattle, according to Dr. Carl Dieffenbach, Director of the Division of AIDS at NIH's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Dr. Dieffenbach and his colleague Anne Rancourt joined us for a Facebook Live session to re-cap some of those findings.

National Academies Report Charts Course to Elimination of Hepatitis B and C in U.S.

Editor's Note: A newly released report outlining a national strategy for elimination of hepatitis B and C by 2030 has important implications for people living with HIV. An estimated 10% of people living with HIV are coinfected with hepatitis B and 25% are coinfected with hepatitis C. Given these intersections, hastening the end of hepatitis B and C will strengthen our national response to HIV reducing illness and death among PLWH.

A national healthcare coalition comprised of 15 national organizations and networks launches a 17 city Demand Access: Black Healthcare Access Tour to raise awareness about the importance of healthcare access in Black communities, mobilize communities to respond to recent threats to the Affordable Care Act (ACA/Obamacare), and help individuals sign up for insurance during the 2017 ACA open-enrollment period: November 1, 2017 thru December 15, 2017.
