As we near the onset of Suicide Prevention Month, we share new research new research that shows that people who are hospitalized as a result of a serious infection are more likely to commit suicide than others, with PLWHA and those with Hep C having two times the suicide risk of people with other types of infections. Read on to learn about a possible new link between inflammation and depressive symptoms.

Our friends at Kaiser Health News inform us about a troublesome trend: children and teens who have Hep C, yet are not aware of their diagnosis and/or the potential future need to receive treatment. We also run a story from them about the difficult time Black and Hispanic children who have a mental health condition have obtaining treatment.

Recently the CDC released the first nationally representative data on the health risks faced by gay, lesbian and bisexual high school students. Sadly, the data show that these young people experience physical and sexual violence and bullying at levels 2 to 3 times higher than their heterosexual peers. Our friends at AIDS.gov report.

We run a Colorlines special report on the difficulties trans workers of color have in participating in the workplace.

Finally, please continue to keep your eye on our Events listing to find an AIDS 2016 update in a city near you. We will be in the Bay Area on September 9th followed by Charlotte on September 23rd. Go to BlackAIDS.org to register.

Yours in the struggle,

Phill
