Learning in action
The United States Conference on AIDS (USCA)—to be held September 10-13, 2015 in Washington, D.C.—is the largest HIV/AIDS-related gathering in the United States. Thousands of people from all fronts of the epidemic—from case managers and physicians, to public health workers and advocates, to PLWHAs and policymakers—assemble there to build national support networks, exchange the latest information, and learn advanced tools to address the challenges of HIV/AIDS.
For nearly two decades, the USCA has sought to increase the strength and diversity of the community-based response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic through education, training, new partnerships, collaboration and networking. This year, USCA will highlight the changes that have brought the world closer than ever to ending the epidemic, as well as ways to move forward.
On September 8 and 9, 2015, the Black AIDS Institute will host the 2015 Black Treatment Advocates Network (BTAN) Preconference and the 2015 National Black PrEP Summit. BTAN is the only collaboration to help link Black Americans with HIV into care and treatment while promoting prevention strategies. It also raises HIV science and treatment literacy in Black communities and advocates for policy change and specific research priorities. The BTAN Preconference will convene the local leadership of the national BTAN network to deepen core competencies and highlight accomplishments in addition to planning 2016 objectives.
The National Black PrEP Summit will serve as a call to action to identify best practices for PrEP uptake in Black communities and develop implementation strategies with participation from policymakers, local leaders, researchers, and experts.
