In May the Black AIDS Institute not only marked it's 15th anniversary but also hosted its Heroes in the Struggle Gala at the Director's Guild in Los Angeles, where we honored Academy Award-winning actress Mo'Nique; NIAID director, Dr. Tony Fauci; Jamar Rogers, an HIV-positive health advocate and a finalist on The Voice; and corporate hero Walgreens, for their heroism in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We fill you in on the evening's festivities.

Not only is Black America experiencing an HIV epidemic, we're also disproportionately impacted by hepatitis C and about one-quarter of PLWHA are also infected with hepatitis C. Tamara Holmes reports. The Affordable Care Act was supposed to have eliminated insurers' ability to deny people coverage based on pre-existing conditions. But are insurers adhering to the new law? Our friends at Kaiser Health News investigate.

Earlier this year we ran a series of stories on HIV criminalization. We continue our coverage of this important issue by reporting some good news: Iowa's revisions to its laws that once criminalized HIV.
