In This Issue

This year the Black AIDS Institute celebrates its 15th anniversary. We are marking this occasion in several ways, perhaps most significantly by holding our Heroes in the Struggle Gala Reception and Awards Presentation, which will take place on Tuesday, May 20th at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles (click here to purchase tickets). In this issue we run the first in a series of profiles on our Heroes in the Struggle honorees: a look at the leadership and accomplishments of Dr. Anthony Fauci.

We also run a snapshot of new research finding that one-third of HIV-positive American moms have had a psychiatric or substance-abuse disorder. Last week the Obama administration announced that more than 8 million Americans have signed up for the Affordable Care Act through the federal and state exchanges. As we transition into this new era, we run several updates that lay out what's next. Our friends at Colorlines have shared the take of LeeAnn Hall, the executive director for Alliance for a Just Society, on what we should do now. Our friends at AIDS.gov, educate us on how to use our new coverage. And Kaiser Health News shares a story on the new enrollees that provides important information about early prescription drug claims among people with HIV/AIDS and hepatitis.

Finally, we invite you to support the fight to end AIDS by purchasing tickets for the Drive Out AIDS final raffle for the 2014 Kia Forte or a Carnival Cruise for two, which will take place at the Heroes Gala. Go here to get your tickets or call 213-353-3610, ext. 107.

Yours in the struggle,

Phill
