Last week the Obama administration announced the next phase of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy: the HIV Care Continuum Initiative, which directs federal agencies to address the so-called "treatment cascade" by taking steps to increase testing, services and treatment for PLWHA and make it easier to obtain all three HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and presidential senior advisor Valerie Jarret report.
As we move closer to full implementation of the Affordable Care Act, we complete our four-part series on how the ACA impacts PLWHA by stressing how important the AIDS community's advocacy work is to ensure full implementation. Our friends at Kaiser Health News report on cost-sharing subsidies intended to help working-class people offset out-of-pocket costs associated with the insurance they will purchase through health insurance marketplaces this fall, as well as 17 states' decision to turn responsibility for managing their high-risk insurance pool over to the federal government.
