As we enter the holidays, a season often characterized by overindulgence, Dr. Teresa Mack reminds us of the unique reasons that people living with HIV need to concern ourselves about carrying excess weight.
We run a story describing a new study that found that in 20011 only 20 percent of American HIV docs surveyed were prescribing PrEP for their patients. Recent research also shows that the risk of contracting HIV is dramatically lower among gay and bisexual men who accurately know their HIV status than among those who are uncertain. On World AIDS Day President Obama announced that NIH will redirect funds toward finding a cure for HIV. You'll find the details here. And we congratulate our friend Evelyn Ullah, the Director of HIV Prevention Programs for Florida's Department of Health in Broward County, for being named co-chair of the Urban Coalition's steering committee.
Yours in the struggle,
Phill
