In This Issue

We see him most often as the ubiquitous Allstate pitchman with that wonderfully sonorous voice. But Dennis Haysbert has been appearing in some of our favorite films--from the Major League series to Waiting to Exhale to Breach to Kung Fu Panda--for over 20 years. He was also one of the first actors to become an HIV/AIDS activist, as you'll learn in this issue.

Tamara Holmes continues her reporting along the Road to AIDS 2012--this time from the town hall meeting held in the Big Apple, where participants expressed concerns about the Affordable Care Act as well as about the care and treatment they would receive if they were to relocate to another part of the country.

The International AIDS Society reports on three new studies. One has identified the point at which starting PrEP among American MSM would become cost effective; the second has determined that taking antidepressants improves adherence to antiretroviral medications—but that it doesn't work the other way around; and the third examines the high rate of insomnia among PLWHA.

The Institute is registering a new crop of participants in the Black Treatment Advocate Network--this time in Baton Rouge/New Orleans, Oakland/San Francisco, and Miami/Fort Lauderdale. We also salute the 20 graduates of the 2011 class of the African American HIV University Community Mobilization College. Kudos to you!

And the Institute will participate in the Los Angeles premiere of The Skinny. For more information, read on.

Yours in the struggle,

Phill
