UNDER THE BAOBAB TREE
GLOBAL VILLAGE-International AIDS Conference
July 22nd-27th, Washington, DC, USA
The African and Black Global Network on HIV and AIDS (ABDGN) in partnership with the Black AIDS Institute and the Black Diaspora Regional Working Group for AIDS 2012 invite you to submit a workshop or session proposal to be presented at the AIDS 2012 Black Diaspora Networking Zone entitled “Under the Baobab Tree”.
AIDS 2012 will be a landmark gathering for the Black Diaspora and people of African Descent from around the world. Over 70% of all people living with HIV, globally, are black and of African descent, the majority living in Sub-Saharan Africa. They encompass populations most vulnerable to HIV infection, including men who have sex with men, transgender populations, women, youth, sex workers, people who use drugs, migrants and mobile populations. This will be a great opportunity to engage with and influence global discourse amongst Black Diaspora communities and advocate for the promotion of health and human rights for all.
Global Village
The Black Diaspora Networking Zone will be a part of the AIDS 2012 Global Village: a diverse and vibrant space where people from all over the world and all walks of life meet to share and learn from each other. It is a space for community to demonstrate the application of science and good leadership. It is also a space that invites conference participants to see how science translates into community action and intervention.
The Global Village promotes networking between north and south, east and west and provides a space for displays, discussions and performances from throughout the world. The Global Village is open to the general public and conference delegates and admission is FREE.
The Black Diaspora Networking Zone will be a space for dynamic and engaging dialogue and action planning for conference participants and members of the general public that are working with or are of African descent
The diversity of the Black Diaspora experience will be showcased to support the exchange of information, resources and knowledge to address the inequities that result in being disproportionately impacted by HIV. The overarching goal of this space is to energize a global grassroots movement to acknowledge, address, and take action on the development of a global Black Diaspora HIV/AIDS framework.
If you have an idea for an audio or visual presentation, a cultural activity, a facilitated group discussion, a panel presentation, a workshop or advocacy activity you would like to deliver in our networking zone we encourage you to complete the application form attached.
If you have already submitted a programme activity or abstract for AIDS 2012, we also encourage you to submit an application to increase the opportunities for people to learn and share from your contribution to AIDS 2012.
