The news reports left begging the obvious question of how their facts related to Black people elsewhere. Health journalist Nicole Saunders dug in and provides the answer in "Does Using 'The Shot' for Birth Control Up Your HIV Risk?"
We run a story from our friends at TheBody.com about the American Academy of Pediatrics' recent recommendation that teens ages 16 to 18 get HIV tested if they live in an area with an HIV prevalence of greater than 0.1 percent, as most Black young people do.
With the U.S. Conference on AIDS opening later this week, both AIDS.gov and the International AIDS Society provide an overview of their activities, including a Partners Session with the Black AIDS Institute on Friday morning.
We rerun a story from NAPWA's Positive Voice Newsletter about the criminalization of HIV. Kaiser Health News reports that public support for the Affordable Care Act seems to be dropping as Democrats lose faith that it will improve their lives.
Thursday night the Oakland graduates of the African-American HIV University will be hosting an educational forum at Yoshi's targeting Black MSM. And the AAHU is accepting applications for fellows for its 2012 Community Mobilization College.
We look forward to seeing you at the USCA!
Yours in the struggle,
