In This Issue

For years people living with HIV/AIDS fought for the Affordable Care Act and now we have it. We are closing in on the March 31st deadline for enrolling in health care coverage. To encourage the stragglers to sign up, we run an essay by Magic Johnson who points us to a video in which he talks about how having health insurance coverage saved his life.

Alyssa Cardi Wins Roadmap Challenge Raffle

A self-described Disney fanatic and cook won The Black AIDS Institute's Roadmap Challenge raffle—and an Ultratab by Jazz tablet. Alyssa Cardi, of Providence, R.I., discovered that, true to the Disney slogan, dreams can, in fact, come true.

NMA Experts Release Recommendations to Address Hepatitis C Among African Americans

With an estimated 3.2 million Americans chronically infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV), and an estimated 75% of them unaware of their infection, the sheer magnitude of the number of persons infected calls the nation to action. Moreover, chronic HCV infection is the most common cause of liver cirrhosis and primary liver cancer, and need for liver transplantation in the United States.

Share Knowledge. Take Action. Take Charge. Take the Test.

In the United States, women remain heavily impacted by HIV. At the end of 2010, one in four people living with HIV were women. However, not all women are equally at risk for HIV. Women of color are disproportionately affected by HIV compared with women of other races/ethnicities.
