The Black AIDS Institute and the Magic Johnson Foundation commemorated World AIDS Day with the 10th Annual Heroes in the Struggle (HITS) Gala Reception, Silent Auction and Awards Presentation. HITS is a photographic tribute to people who have made heroic contributions in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Each year new Heroes are added to the exhibit. This year’s portraits, shot by top notch top photographers including Kwaku Alston, Duane Cramer, Darien Davis, Ben Hider, and Matthew Jordan Smith, were unveiled at a star-studded event at the Avalon Hollywood.

The Black AIDS Institute is pleased to announce applications for the 2011 African American HIV University Community Mobilization College (AAHU CMC) are now available. Aimed at strengthening organizational and individual capacity to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Black communities, the AAHU is a comprehensive training and internship fellowship program. The program is designed to decrease stigma and misperception and increase the engagement of the Black community in HIV prevention and treatment services. This is achieved through leadership development and information transfer among key stakeholders.

December 7, 2010, Los Angeles, CA –With the AIDS epidemic approaching the end of its third decade, the last year witnessed important developments on the national AIDS response and in efforts to address the epidemic in Black America, says a new report released today by the Black AIDS Institute (The Institute). At the Crossroads, the 2010 State of AIDS in Black America report highlights of what proved to be an eventful year, placing particular emphasis on the key challenges that remain for the AIDS response in Black America.

During the week of World AIDS Day, Walgreens brought Greater Than AIDS to the big screen—literally. To celebrate individual actions in response to HIV/AIDS, Walgreens posted images of everyday people celebrating their Deciding Moments on its digital billboard in Times Square, which rises 341 feet above midtown Manhattan.
