We're happy to launch the 2016 Black AIDS Weekly in connection with Black History Month and to kick off National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. During our hiatus we have been very busy, including designing a new masthead for the Black AIDS Weekly and starting a redesign on BlackAIDS.org. We look forward to finding out what you think of the new masthead and will keep you informed as the work on the website unfolds.

Beginning this week the Black AIDS Institute will provide a countdown until the federal health-insurance marketplace, Healthcare.gov, begins open enrollment so people can obtain insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare. There are 22 days until November 1, the first day of open enrollment.

We begin this issue expressing our concern for residents of Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and our other friends in the Caribbean who are trying to recover from Hurricane Maria, as well as our condolences to the families and people whose lives are forever altered by gun violence, including recently in Las Vegas.
