HIVMA Minority Clinical Fellowship Program: February 2 Application Deadline

The HIV Medicine Association's Minority Clinical Fellowship program provides a pathway for HIV clinical training for African American and Latino physicians committed to working with medically underserved patient populations. Up to two one-year fellowships are awarded annually to African American and Latino physicians. During the training year, fellows manage the ongoing care of patients with HIV disease under the supervision of an HIVMA mentor. The award includes a $60,000 stipend plus funding for benefits for one year and support for additional learning opportunities.

The Hope and Burden of The Civil Rights Movement

It's nearly* six months since white police officer Darren Wilson killed 18-year-old, unarmed civilian Michael Brown in Ferguson, a St. Louis, Mo. suburb. There and around the country, the fatal shooting released a pressure valve of outrage about brutal and racist policing in black communities. Nationwide, people have marched, camped out in parking lots, blocked highway traffic, died in, sung in and even interrupted bourgie brunch. But to what end? What's next?

Sister Minnie Wilkinson was no crusader.

Her pastor, Michael Minor, had received some small acclaim when he banned fried chicken at Oak Hill church in an effort to help parishioners lose weight. The fried chicken ban was all right with Wilkinson who didn't mind the turkey sausage replacement and regularly attended Weight Watchers, but the ban on soda at church functions was tough to abide. She loved, absolutely loved, Dr. Pepper.

HIV/AIDS Organizations Support Health Insurance Marketplace Outreach and Enrollment as Champions for Coverage

During our recent AIDS.gov webinar, Toward an AIDS-free Generation: Healthcare Outreach and Enrollment for People Living with HIV, panelists discussed ways that HIV/AIDS organizations can help reach out to and enroll individuals, particularly from communities of color, in coverage available to them through the Health Insurance Marketplace. One way for organizations to get involved, explained panelist Jeanette Contreras of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Office of Communications, is by becoming a Champion for Coverage.
