Retired tennis star James Blake was arrested briefly when he was reportedly mistaken for a suspect during an identity theft sting that was happening at the midtown Manhattan hotel where he was staying
Police violence tends to get the most public visibilty when it happens to celebrities, and that is certainly the case for the NYPD's recent assault on retired tennis star James Blake. Blake, who was in New York for a special appearance at the US Open, was accosted by five white plainsclothes officers yesterday. One of the cops bodyslammed the black tennis pro on the concrete outside of his Midtown Manhattan hotel.

FHI360 is behind an online platform that will curate content at the 2015 U.S. Conference on AIDS (#2015USCA).
"We are curating the content and creating a daily delivery email that will be sent to conference participants the following day," says Manny Rodriguez, the project director of social marketing and communication for FHI360. The first issue of the newsletter will be emailed on Friday, September 11, and the last, on Monday, September 14.
Needle-Exchange Program Curbed HIV Spread, Study Finds

A needle-exchange program in Washington, D.C., has prevented hundreds of new HIV infections, a new study suggests.
The program for injection drug users was launched in 2007, and it prevented an estimated 120 new cases of HIV infection and saved about $44 million in HIV treatment costs within two years, the researchers said.

Viral hepatitis is known as the silent epidemic, because it is a disease that is both under-recognized and underdiagnosed. Hepatitis can result from infection with several different viruses, including hepatitis C virus (HCV). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that nearly 3.2 million people are chronically infected with HCV and that nearly half are unaware of their infection.
