America Marks National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day—All Month

On March 10 the nation marked National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD), an observance that raises Americans' awareness of the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls. Of the more than 1.1 million people living with HIV in America, 1 in 4 are female. Women represent 27 percent of all new AIDS diagnoses, with African-American women accounting for 66 percent of that demographic. In many parts of the country, NWGHAAD activities took place all month.

But in busy healthcare practices, it is not uncommon for providers to skip the sexual history unless a patient shows signs or symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

On May 20, 2014, the Black AIDS Institute will celebrate its 15th anniversary in conjunction with Heroes in the Struggle (HITS) to be held at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles, California.
6 Days And Counting

The clock is ticking on the open enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a., Obamacare. Monday, March 31, marks the final day that many uninsured Americans can sign up without having to pay a financial penalty or wait until the next open enrollment period in the fall to get insurance for 2015. Only people who experience a life-changing event, such as a job loss, can sign up after March 31st. Another way of saying this is that if you don't sign up and something catastrophic happens, you're basically on your own.
