Young Gay Black Men's Leadership Initiative Gears Up for 2014 Policy & Advocacy Summit
At AIDS.gov we have been fortunate enough to share with you voices from the community of men dedicated to amplifying the response to HIV among Black men who have sex with men (MSM). Our Black Voices blog series brings together young black leaders who are using new media to make a difference for black MSM at the risk of HIV infection. With young Black/African American MSM, experiencing the largest increase in numbers of diagnoses of HIV infection of all racial/ethnic groups—from 3,762 diagnoses in 2008 to 4,619 diagnoses in 2011, it is important to address these topics of community leadership, prevention, and care in order to achieve an AIDS-free generation.

'Brown Bag' Events Dispel Misinformation About the Affordable Care Act
As the clock ran down on open enrollment for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), The Black AIDS Institute continued its 2014 Brown Bag Lunch series in March by dispelling false information and giving people the information they needed to get signed up before the March 31 deadline.

The Known Unknowns of Obamacare's Racial Justice Impact
As of midnight on March 31st, if you had not enrolled in a health insurance plan under the Affordable Care Act (or asked for a special extension), you'll have to wait until 2015 to buy coverage on the law's exchanges. Medicaid enrollment continues all year.

CDC Locks Out Black Providers in New AIDS Technical Assistance Announcement
On March 19 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) awarded $115 million over five years to 21 organizations that provide technical assistance (TA) and capacity building to health departments, AIDS service organizations (ASOs) and community-based organizations implementing high-impact prevention and improving outcomes in the care continuum for people living with HIV/AIDS. Not one of the new CDC grantees is a Black organization. The effect of this decision is that Black organizations have been locked out of leading technical assistance and capacity building in this country for the next five years.
