HHS Secretary Sebelius Statement Observing LGBT Pride Month

At the Department of Health and Human Services, we are committed to ensuring that members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community have access to quality, affordable health care and enjoy the same rights and protections that all Americans expect and deserve. This year, as we celebrate LGBT Pride Month, we take a moment to recognize the historic strides we have made in advancing the health and well-being of members of the LGBT community and all Americans through implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

2013 Youth Risk Behavior Survey Results Released

Results from the 2013 National Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) were released last week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This survey is conducted every two years among a nationally representative sample of high school students. More than 13,000 U.S. high school students participated in the most recent national survey. Participation was voluntary and responses were anonymous. The 2013 YRBS Report includes the National YRBS data, as well as data from surveys conducted in 42 states and 21 large urban school districts.

Developing a Comprehensive Digital Communications Strategy for Washington, DC's African American Women

The Women's Collective (TWC) is a community health and human service agency in Washington, D.C., providing direct services and advocacy for the health and human rights of girls and women affected by HIV/AIDS. Like many small nonprofits serving low-income communities and women of color, we experience daily challenges in our efforts to reach current and potential clients using digital communications. Timely and effective communication enables women and girls to access and benefit from health services and information.

Deadline for African American HIV University Science and Treatment College Extended

 

You now have until June 23, 2014 to submit your application for the Black AIDS Institute's 2014 Science and Treatment College held from August 1-31, 2014 in collaboration with the UCLA Center for World Health and the UCLA AIDS Institute.

In May the Black AIDS Institute not only marked it's 15th anniversary but also hosted its Heroes in the Struggle Gala at the Director's Guild in Los Angeles, where we honored Academy Award-winning actress Mo'Nique; NIAID director, Dr. Tony Fauci; Jamar Rogers, an HIV-positive health advocate and a finalist on The Voice; and corporate hero Walgreens, for their heroism in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We fill you in on the evening's festivities.
