Marriage Is Great, But Many LGBT People of Color Need Job Safety
As the Supreme Court weighed arguments on same-sex marriage, Chief Justice John Roberts wondered aloud from the bench whether action on the issue by the court was necessary, because "politicians are falling all over themselves" to bring the legal rights of gay and lesbian Americans in line with those of everyone else. If only this were true. In up to 34 states it's still legal for employers to deny jobs to citizens simply because they are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

Anti-HIV Therapy Appears to Protect Children's Hearts, NIH Network Study Shows
For children who have had HIV-1 infection since birth, the combination drug therapies now used to treat HIV appear to protect against the heart damage seen before combination therapies were available, according to researchers in a National Institutes of Health network study.

What Do We Know?
When my work first involved HIV, I was employed at a reproductive-health clinic whose amazing clinicians would explain the science behind how concepts like birth control, STD medications and sexually communicable diseases worked--but only to those health educators who were curious enough to ask. I was curious, so I asked. And I noticed that as my scientific knowledge grew, I became more effective in helping my patients adhere to their medications, engage in safer sexual-health practices and successfully navigate our clinic.
