World AIDS Day (December 1) is fast approaching and plans are underway both here at AIDS.gov and throughout the HIV/AIDS community to mark this important international health observance, which serves as a key opportunity to raise awareness and renew and invigorate our commitment to ending AIDS.

The 2012 election is over. President Obama will return to the White House. A Republican majority -- slightly smaller majority, but majority nonetheless -- will return to the House of Representatives. And a slightly more Democratic majority will return to the United States' Senate. So what has changed?

Speaking What's Right


Among HIV/AIDS advocates, one of the major issues in this election was healthcare.  There have been many advances in the past four years.  We have a National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS), FDA approval of an HIV-prevention pill, and the Affordable Care Act.

Maryland and Beyond: What This Election Means for Black LGBT Love and Families


Family is the epicenter of Black life, community and culture. For Black lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, its importance is just as great. Studies show that in comparison to their White counterparts, Black gay and lesbian couples are more likely to be raising children. Without the legal protections that marriage provides, these families are some of our nation’s most vulnerable.
