PrEP for High-Risk MSM in the United States Judged Cost-Effective

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) with daily antiretrovirals to prevent HIV acquisition in US men who have sex with men (MSM) would be expensive but would be cost-effective if limited to men who have an average of 5 sex partners yearly, according to results of a cost-benefit analysis. If extended to a wider group of US MSM, PrEP would not be cost-effective.

Predictors of Antidepressant Vs ARV Adherence in US Military Group

Different variables predicted adherence to antiretrovirals versus antidepressants in a study of 225 depressed HIV-positive people at three US Veterans Affairs HIV clinics. Antidepressant adherence predicted antiretroviral adherence, but the opposite was not true.

High Insomnia Rate in US HIV Group Tied to Depression and Girth

Almost half of a small cohort of treated, HIV-positive military beneficiaries had insomnia, and almost one third had daytime sleepiness. Depression and higher waist size were associated with a higher insomnia risk.

In 2012, the Black Treatment Advocates Network (BTAN) is excited to expand its efforts to Baton Rouge/New Orleans, Oakland/San Francisco, and Miami/Fort Lauderdale! The Black Treatment Advocates Network (BTAN) is part of a commitment by the Black AIDS Institute to help raise HIV science literacy in Black communities.

Graduation of AAHU CMC Class of 2011

The Black AIDS Institute is exceptionally pleased to announce the commencement of 20 graduates from its African American HIV University Community Mobilization College (AAHU CMC). On February 18th 2012 the Class of 2011 completed AAHU CMC.
