Marcus Day is director of the Caribbean Drug Abuse Research Institute as well as founder and coordinator of the Caribbean Harm Reduction Coalition, based in Castries, St. Lucia. He is also a member of the governance committee for the International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2012). Here he speaks about what he believes needs to happen to stamp out the HIV/AIDS pandemic; what he's looking forward to at this year's conference this July in Washington, D.C.; and why it's important for Black Americans to attend.

CDC Invites Public Comment on Draft Recommendations for One-Time Hepatitis C Testing for Baby Boomers

CDC has released draft recommendations proposing that all Americans born from 1945 through 1965 (“baby boomers”) get a one-time test for the hepatitis C virus. In the United States, hepatitis C is the leading cause of liver transplants and liver cancer, which is the fastest-rising cause of cancer-related deaths in the nation.

One of the world’s largest HIV-related scientific gatherings of people working in and living with HIV will take place in July 2012. Scientists, policy-makers, and community members will convene in Washington D.C. for six days at the XIX International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2012) sharing information about the most recent advances in HIV science. Through post-conference hubs, local communities will disseminate knowledge beyond the international conference into local communities.
NHAS Federal Leads Confer on Possible Collaborative Activities

On Monday, April 25, 2012, representatives of the six federal agencies designated by the President as lead agencies with responsibility for implementing the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS) met to continue our collaborative efforts to implement the Strategy and discuss plans for possible cross-departmental activities.
