Signature Theatre Hosts Special Gay Men's HIV Awareness Evening on October 1, 2011


 

To commemorate the Washington, D.C., premiere of Sweet Tea: Black Gay Men of the South and Gay Men's HIV Awareness Day, Signature Theatre is hosting a special post-show panel discussion on Saturday, October 1st at 8:00 p.m. The discussion, "30 Years is Enuf," is presented through special arrangement with the Black Gay Men's Network, Black AIDS Institute, and Jane M. Saks.

Below you'll find the second in our two-part series about the high new-infection rates among Black gay and bisexual men. Writer Rod McCullom explores the need for a greater financial investment government-wide in ending the epidemic among Black MSM. We also share information about the recently formed Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus and urge you to contact your representatives to let them know that you are involved in ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic and expect them to demonstrate their involvement as well by joining this important new organization.

The second of a two-part series examining the high rates of new HIV infection among Black gay and bisexual men. Part 1 described the new data detailing the dramatic increases in new infections, examined some of the reasons driving the numbers and described the CDC's new social-marketing initiative, designed to encourage testing among Black MSM.

Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus Launched


 

Five Members of Congress gathered outside the Capitol on Thursday morning, September 15, to announce the formation of the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus. Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA) introduced the bipartisan Caucus, noting that it had 59 members as of its debut and it would be welcoming additional Members in the weeks ahead.

Tell Your Representative to Join the Congressional AIDS Congress


 

Representatives Barbara Lee (D-CA), Jim McDermott (D-WA) and Trent Franks (R-AZ) recently established the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus. This bipartisan Caucus will focus on implementation of the US National HIV/AIDS Strategy, financing for bilateral and multilateral HIV/AIDS programs, the state of HIV/AIDS research, the role of Faith-Based Organizations and the 2012 International AIDS Conference to be held in Washington, D.C.
