Beginning this week the Black AIDS Institute will provide a countdown until the federal health-insurance marketplace, Healthcare.gov, begins open enrollment so people can obtain insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare. There are 22 days until November 1, the first day of open enrollment.

We begin this issue expressing our concern for residents of Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and our other friends in the Caribbean who are trying to recover from Hurricane Maria, as well as our condolences to the families and people whose lives are forever altered by gun violence, including recently in Las Vegas.

30 Days of Giving. Three Ways to Give
2017 has been a year of tremendous uncertainty in HIV. From the never-ending attacks on the Affordable Care Act, to potential decreases the allocation of funds to the CDC, HRSA and other HIV/AIDS funding sources, the promise of ending the AIDS epidemic seems further away today than it did a year ago. The Black AIDS Institute and other organizations are attempting to resists the attempts to roll back the clock.

There are so many things going on in our world right now. Today is #GivingTuesday, so, of course, the BAI needs your help. We are launching a new campaign to help our friends to support the work that we do. The campaign is called "30 Days of Giving: 3 Ways to Give".

While the Affordable Care Act's fifth open enrollment season is off to a surprisingly good start, many uninsured people said they weren't even aware of it, according to a survey released Friday.
