HHS & NIH Seek Public Comments on LGBT Health

Sexual and gender minority projects by population. Men who have sex with men (MSM) are the most commonly represented population

There are two opportunities to offer public comment on plans to better understand and improve the health and wellness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Americans. These federal plans include but extend beyond HIV, addressing many other health concerns of the LGBT community.

There is a Black Lives Matter PAC—But It's Not Affiliated with the Movement

Leaders in the Black Lives Matter movement have repeatedly said that the network will not endorse a candidate and instead seeks to encourage presidential candidates to design their platforms using tactics that will address institutional racism and its impact on the black body. But a new, similarly-named political action committee aims to cosign local and federal candidates, starting with Missouri and Illinois.

In This Issue

This week we report on the relaunch of our BTAN Chicago chapter, which has two new co-chairs and is off to a roaring start. Over the next several months, we'll be doing a lot of reporting on BTAN, as local chapters host the Black AIDS Institute's National PrEP Tour.

Chicago BTAN

For the past year, the Chicago chapter of the Black Treatment Advocates Network (BTAN) has been under construction and has emerged with new leadership: HIV/AIDS advocates Atara Young and Sherman Bryant. One major goal of these new leaders is to help bridge gaps between the plethora of city organizations that could work better together rather than in silos.

National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Plans HBCU Initiative to Engage Students in Awareness Efforts

Gamma Mu Phi members are among thousands of Black students who support National Black HIV /AIDS Awareness Day

Just as students are returning to campus embarking on new classes, student activities, and volunteerism, the National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) campaign is giving students an active role in raising awareness of the message "Get Educated, Get Tested, Get Involved, and Get Treatment."
