Medicare Announces Coverage for Annual HIV Test

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced last week that it has expanded coverage to include one, annual voluntary screening for HIV infection for all adolescent and adult Medicare beneficiaries between the ages of 15 and 65, without regard to perceived risk. Coverage for pregnant Medicare beneficiaries will remain unchanged.

Despite its rocky launch, the federal health insurance exchange did better than the exchanges run by individual states at both enrolling new people in Obamacare and hanging onto previous enrollees during the 2015 open enrollment period that ended in February, according to a recent analysis.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) is seeking grant applications from community-based organizations (CBOs) or Tribes from areas of high HIV prevalence through its 2015 Targeted Capacity Expansion: Substance Use Disorder Treatment for Racial/Ethnic Minority Populations at High-Risk for HIV/AIDS.
