As we commemorate LGBT history month, we salute photographer Duane Cramer, the eye behind the history-making "Testing Makes Us Stronger" outreach campaign intended to help lower HIV rates among Black men who have sex with men. Over the years Duane has lent his eye to various Institute initiatives, shooting the images of various Heroes in the Struggle award recipients, for instance.

This October, LGBT History Month, we showcase the work of a Black gay man who has participated in several Black AIDS movement "firsts"--from being photographed for "Greater Than AIDS," the first national HIV/AIDS-awareness outreach to Black Americans, to photographing "Testing Makes Us Stronger," the first campaign targeting Black gay and bisexual men.

Black Doctors Pursuing National HIV/AIDS Strategy Goals

Recently, I had the opportunity to address more than 80 African American physicians gathered at an HIV/AIDS Symposium for Primary Care during the National Medical Association’s (NMA) annual convention here in Washington, DC. My remarks addressed the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS) and what Black physicians can do to help the nation achieve the Strategy’s important goals.

CLASS Dismissed: Obama Administration Pulls Plug on Long-Term Care Program

Federal officials on Friday effectively shut down part of the health care law that would have helped consumers cover some long-term-care costs, saying they could not find a way to make it work financially.

Road to AIDS 2012 Town Hall Meetings Kick Off

Last month, the first Road to AIDS 2012 Town Hall meeting kicked off in San Francisco, California. This was the first of 15 meetings to be held across the country leading up to the XIX International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2012) (note: every Road to AIDS 2012 meeting is free and open to the public). AIDS 2012 is the largest gathering of people working in HIV and will take place July 22-27, 2012 in Washington, DC.
