In This Issue

This week, we continue our series profiling the Black AIDS Institute's Heroes in the Struggle Gala and Award Celebration awardees. We highlight the work of Alfre Woodard—from her award-winning career to her groundbreaking work as an HIV/AIDS activist and founder of Artists for a New South Africa.

We are also thrilled to showcase Ledisi in this issue. If you haven't heard her perform before, you won't want to miss this amazing singer/songwriter, who will headline the Heroes in the Struggle Gala and Award Celebration next Friday, September 16, in Los Angeles. She, too, demonstrates leadership in the fight to end HIV and AIDS. You can learn how to purchase tickets, become a sponsor, or participate in other ways, below.

From Alfre Woodard to Taraji P. Henson, next week's Gala will honor women. Consistent with this the Black AIDS Institute is very excited to announce that we are embarking upon a partnership with Planned Parenthood, where we will support them as they build upon and augment their HIV-prevention efforts, including integrating PrEP into their services. The work will be funded by a $900,000 grant from Gilead Sciences, Inc., and will help expand their HIV-prevention work into communities hardest hit by the epidemic. Read on for more information about this groundbreaking collaboration.

In this issue, we also tell you how you can access the HRSA Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program's AIDS Education and Training Centers (AETC) National Coordinating Resource Center's new, free, online curriculum. This curriculum offers healthcare providers and health profession educators training on HIV/Hepatitis C (HCV) co-infection, including prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations.

And as Congress reconvenes, will Republicans will pay for their efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, or will the nation move on to the next issue? Our friends at Kaiser Health News report.

Finally, we invite you to join us at the Heroes in the Struggle Gala and Award Celebration, which will take place Sept. 16, 2017, in the Darryl F. Zanuck Theater at 20th Century Fox Studios in Los Angeles.
