Black AIDS Institute, BTAN, Faith Leaders and U.S. Ambassador Birx Join to Fight HIV/AIDS in Chicago

Beginning next Tuesday, October 18, 2016, four events to mobilize communities to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic will take place in Chicago, including a reception and roundtable between local faith leaders and U.S. Ambassador-at-Large Dr. Deborah Birx, who leads all of the U.S. government's international HIV/AIDS efforts. Key research presented this summer at the 2016 International AIDS Conference in Durban, South Africa, will be shared at the Community Science and Empowerment Forum, focusing on information pertinent to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Chicago's Black communities. Local and national researchers, clinicians, and community activists will present the latest information on the state of HIV/AIDS around the globe. Breakfast and lunch will be served. A reception and roundtable discussion featuring U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator, Ambassador Birx, and Chicago-based faith leaders. Ambassador Birx, who oversees the implementation of the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)—the largest commitment in history made by any nation to combat a single disease—as well as all U.S. engagement with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria will join faith leaders to discuss the role faith organizations can play in ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic and achieving the UNAIDS fast-track goals and objectives. Join Ambassador Birx and other faith- and community leaders for a tour of the new Howard Brown Health and a discussion of local efforts to address the epidemic in the most impacted communities.
