Black AIDS Institute Announces Heroes in the Struggle Award Winners

The Black AIDS Institute has announced the winners of its 16th Heroes in the Struggle Award:

• Gregorio Millett, vice president and director, public policy, amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research

• Janssen Therapeutics, Division of Janssen Products, LP

• Jussie Smollett, actor, "Empire"

• Vanessa Mills, executive director, Empower "U"

The Heroes in the Struggle Gala and Award Celebration honors individuals who have made heroic contributions to the fight against HIV/AIDS over the past year. The event honors the current year's winners and exhibits photographic portraits of previous honorees—artists, caregivers, activists, advocates, faith leaders, policymakers, drum majors and entrepreneurs. Earlier winners—who include such celebrated public figures as Coretta Scott King, Bishop T.D. Jakes and President Bill Clinton—were photographed by some of the nation's greatest photographers, among them: Kwaku Alston, Duane Cramer, Darien Davis, Greg McNeal, Matthew Jordan Smith and Sharon Farmer.

The 16th Heroes In The Struggle Gala and Awards Celebration will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2015, the at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles.
